To The Good and Fine People of Youtube,
There are a variety of ages of those who watch youtube videos. However, mostly it is people in the twelve to seventeen age group who comment. I can tell by how lousy the writing is,haha.
Well, I can stoop to that level, and write as many stupid things as the next person, either by choice, or when I am completely hammered. I won't however, except at those times when I feel like it. Why make rules for myself?
Anyway, who cares about anything I say or do anyways? No one, so I may as well have a good time. I don't care anymore if people understand me or not. They never did before, so why should they now? I have no idea.
I have recently stopped making videos. I just don't care anymore. I only like to make videos when I have a good idea, and if it isn't too much work.
Being employed by adsense is the equivalent of looking for pennies on the street, which is actually more lucrative, I might add.
I give up expecting and hoping people will write, type, and compose in Standard English. Instead, people, even grown adults, type in all lower case with no punctuation. I find this material so unfun to read. What, is everyone a fan of e.e. cummings? Geez, Louise.
The worst is when they ask a question like 'will someone help with quest' and not use a question mark. That means I have to mentally insert one.
To be fair, a lot of these kids on the web can be pretty funny, though. I like some of their responses. They think of things that no adult would think of.
My favorite line, that defended a kid's position about writing is he said, "i cant write but i can play the shit outta this video game".
I accept that. I need kids who know what they are doing on these online games, because I sure as hell don't.
So, it took me a while. I don't have to like what or how people write. I have to tolerate it, and that's okay. I can deal with that.
Some people on the web find me real annoying. Sorry to bug people, but I ain't stoppin'.

I don't know what the point is of making youtube videos anymore. I've made two-thousand of them so far, originally hoping to get a lot of hits, but it really hasn't happened yet. I know it takes time, but I have very few videos that get a decent amount of hits.
The truth is that sometimes it takes a year for a video to 'take off'.
The only way to make any money with adsense is to get a lot of hits.
Most of the people who watch youtube videos are under twenty, and they aren't going to understand what I'm trying to do with my art.
Plus, I have to pander to the rules of youtube, and that is no fun. Swearing and nudity is not recommended.
In addition, my new camera doesn't seem to work with Windows Movie Maker, which is what I am used to working with.
So, I have resolved to only make videos when I get a good idea. To just continually make a video a day isn't really working anymore.
"What's The Point?" I ask myself.
I don't know anymore.
In conclusion, I don't know why I write blogs anymore, either.

Youtube doesn't like you to upload video game, television, or movie clips. They certainly don't like it when you try to monetize them.
Yet, it is these kinds of videos that gets people to watch other videos that I've made from scratch.
It is a dilemma.
Most people only watch stuff they are familiar with, so to get them to watch something new is not easy.
I've also noticed, even with myself, that I would rather watch a video with 100,000 hits then something with forty-five hits. The number of hits indicates that it is somewhat watchable, otherwise, why would so many people watch it?
So, the other day, I did watch a video with only forty-five hits. It turned out to be some woman on a boat filming, and they floated up to a crocodile in the water. The animal seemed annoyed that this big boat was moving in on its territory.
I didn't like the video much, because the pay-off for watching the video wasn't that great, and I had to listen to some cackling woman for three minutes.
It is mostly teen-agers on youtube who watch videos and actively comment.
As you know, getting lots of hits on youtube these days can earn you some extra pocket change.
I think appealing to the youth market is essential, but it isn't the end-all, be-all of things.
I like to make all kinds of videos. I'm not always after hits.
I try to make videos that I will enjoy watching a couple of times at least.
If anybody else likes them, then that is the icing on the cake.
Sometimes, that is all you can hope for.
I get about a thousand hits a day on youtube. That has been pretty consistent in the last year for me.
I am trying to make it be more, but that ain't easy.
Not all of my videos are good, but I don't care. I am having fun, and that is the most important part.
Someday, I would like to get paid for my video work, but at this point, it is a far off dream.
That is okay.
I can live with that for the meantime.
They still haven't accepted my video, "Bob is Happy" for monetization yet. I don't exactly know why. My best guesses are that there are sped-up voices and music, even though it is completely all of my own material. The visual animation part is all mine, too. They asked what program I used to make the video, and I told them it was all done entirely in Windows Movie Maker. I am not sure they believe me.
The World of Youtube can be a confusing place sometimes, so that is why I write about it, just so I can figure out what I think about it.
If what I wrote helps anybody else, then I am happy with that.
On the other hand, if you don't like my writing, why are you reading it?
I have learned that you can't please them all, no matter what you do, so it is best to just follow your own course. You'll never go wrong if you stay true to yourself, and other people will respect you for it. If they don't, who cares? They are probably just toss-offs anyhow.

'Thoughts about "Bob Is Happy" video
At this time, I'm having problems getting my cartoon, "Bob is Happy" monetized on youtube.
I created all of the visual and audio content.
Generally, the youtube team does not like sped-up voices, or over-use of a particular program. That is about all I can figure out.
The cartoon was made entirely in Windows Movie Maker.
Anyway, here is the link...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C71x11jsOmQ
However, they did approve the original song for this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWR9xTVTAKI
Anyhow, someday I just want to get paid for my hard work.
The idea for the cartoon was to just make something really fun, innocent, and happy. So, it has been surprising that my good intent has brought me a little misery.

Swearing on youtube
I've been having trouble because I swear sometimes in my videos. Also, some of my artwork contains profanities.
No one seems to mind except youtube and the advertisers.
My advice is not to swear at all.
It makes things a lot easier.
Why do we even have swear words in the first place? I don't know. There must be a reason.
Jerry Seinfeld does not swear, but he isn't that funny unless he has Larry David writing his material.
George Carlin swears a lot, and he is funny.
But if you want to monetize your videos, don't swear. Lots of people under 18 watch youtube, so it generally is not a good idea.
However, I learned to swear in junior high and high school, so I don't know what to say. The kids I went to school with swear more than anything I have seen since, and that was in Utah of all places. Church on Sunday, and swearing Monday through Saturday, was my experience.
Anyway, it does suck when you have an original video, but you have one too many swears in it. I think that is pretty much against youtube policy. They don't like it.
It is better to not swear at all.
As a person, I really don't like having something tell me what I can or can not say, but there is nothing I can do about it in this case.
There is more and more swearing on television, and no one seems to mind that much, but until then, don't swear on youtube if you can help it.
Sometimes I can't help it, though.
Sometimes the only word that expresses how I feel is a cuss word.
The ironic thing is you can find a million comedy videos with swearing in it. For some reason, they don't want regular people to swear.
I would love to hear what a lawyer has to say about all this.
There are some grey areas about what you can and can not do on youtube. Sometimes, it just depends on the video, or in the context.

I figured that I might as well create a blog about youtube, because this popular site can be very overwhelming and confusing.
The biggest problem I had in the beginning was trying to figure out what I could and could not do. It took me a while to figure out what was 'allowable'.
Anyway, today, I'm dealing with my 'copyright infringement' problems. I made a lot of videos using other people's music, so now I have to go through all of those videos and acknowledge that fact. This is taking some time. I'm in my second hour of doing this.
If I would have known it was wrong, I wouldn't have done it in the first place.
But there is a happy end to this hopefully. My account will remain in good shape, and the people who own the content will get their due; in other words, they will get paid if the videos I made using their content get a lot of hits.
So, I think it will work out fine.
Currently, I am on my second youtube channel. The first one got confused with my gmail account, so I can't really access it anymore. This happened because I finally figured out how to monetize my account.
So now, I am working towards monetizing as many of my videos as I can, so I can actually make money.
I also blog a lot, and that is all tied in now.
All this stuff, from making the videos, to managing my account, has taken years.
I've faced the music.
My channel is not, nor will never be a really popular one. People watch what they want, and I can't force them to watch, I can only suggest. And even that rarely works, so I don't even bother with promotion or anything like that.
Anyway, it is all a rollicking good time, isn't it?
In any case, having my own youtube blog will help me to figure out what is going on with youtube, and maybe along the way, I can help others with the information I discover.
I have helped people before with youtube, including family and friends, guiding them with channel set-up, and how to upload. There are also lots of other things to be aware of.
So, I figure that I am a couple of years deep into this youtube channel, and I'll see what happens. It is unprecedented territory for everyone in the world being able to make videos, and be able to post them so that everyone else in the world can watch. It is kind of exciting, actually.
So, we are all in this together.
One thing I get asked sometimes is, "How do you get subscribers?"
Well, the way I do it is to subscribe to a lot of channels that I like, and sometimes they return the favor.
The other way is to make really awesome content. People will subscribe if you have incredible stuff to watch.
It is my intention on this blog to write about all aspects of youtube that I can. It will be a discovery process for me, and you are welcome to come along for the ride. Hopefully, it will be fun.
I've generated about $83 on my adsense account so far, and basically, the better I do with my youtube and blogger accounts, the more money I will make. So, I want to make this profitable for me, too. In all honesty, I could use a vacation. I've been working every day on this stuff for years.
That is another thing to be aware of on youtube. Things take time, and you have to be really patient, and not expect fast results, because most of the time, it just doesn't happen that way.
Some people get lucky, but that hasn't been my case so far, but you never know what can happen, to be honest. It is good to remain 'permanently optimistic'.
One reason why you might not be getting hits or subscribers is because your videos suck, and need improvement. I learned that lesson.
Why would anyone watch my videos if even I can barely stand to watch them?
That is when I started trying a little harder.
One thing I would like to say, is that it is in your benefit to be nice to people on youtube. So many people flood the site with stupid and ignorant comments, and I don't think that helps anybody, unless the comment is poignant, or really funny.
Just so you know, some kid told me his account got banned because of the mean comments he was making. He had a channel with a hundred subscribers, and now that account is lost forever, so he had to start all over again.
So, save yourself some trouble, and be nice to people.
Well, I hope this helps, and I will add to this blog, when more ideas come.
Thanks for reading, and good luck on your youtube channel. There could be good things ahead.
